MET’s Packing Guide

1)Dispose!

At MET we always recommend that you start the packing process by disposing of or giving away any items you no longer want or believe is necessary to move with you.

Over time, a household will accumulate many possessions, some of which you may not want to take with you to your new home. There are ways to dispose of items you no longer have use for. They involve listing items for sale on various platforms (e.g Facebook Marketplace, eBay), giving them away to family, friends and charities, or alternatively arranging a house clearance.

MET’S TOP TIP: Facebook Marketplace is a great platform for selling items, even if you wanted to do giveaways for free! Charities are also keen to take well-nurtured, second-hand goods.

2)Start Packing!

When moving, it is important that you start the packing process as soon as you can. We understand there are essential furniture items such as beds and tables that you may need for the last days in your home. However, we advise miscellaneous items such as kids’ toys, candles, vases and shoes should be put into boxes and ready to go on moving day. If you are not packed and ready to be moved, this can contribute to a longer moving time.

To enable your moving day to run as smoothly as possible, we advise making use of storage boxes and items that cannot fit in a box are to be placed in black bags.

MET’S TOP TIP: Start early and do little bits day-by-day so it doesn’t become overwhelming. Trust us, it works!

3)Labelling and Marking.

If you are packing your own home, we would advise you to not mix items from different rooms together and to label everything. E.g every item from the Kitchen should be labelled in a box with “Kitchen” written on the box, and every item from “Bedroom 1” should be put in a box labelled “Bedroom 1”. Not only will this help the removal team to know where to put your items but saves you a lot of time and stress when organising and unpacking.

MET’S TOP TIP: For goods such as Glass, Plates and Sentimental items, label the box “FRAGILE” so your household and the Removal Team are aware. MET will treat every box as if they were fragile but it’s always good to know!

4)Food

Very important!

In preparation for your house move we would recommend only buying the essentials you need. For safety reasons we do not move perishables foods and cannot move your fridge/freezer whilst contents are still inside. To avoid disappointment and wasted time, please make sure you empty your perishable items.

MET’S TOP TIP: By stacking up on less, this will ensure that nothing goes to waste.

5)Update us!

If there are any changes to your moving day or the services you require, please let us know as early as possible.

MET’S TOP TIP: If you’re not sure ask.  Any further tips or guides for your house move, don’t hesitate to contact us:
